What is tado°
tado° Smart Thermostats help to reduce heating costs without compromising comfort. With tado°, each room is only heated when and as much as necessary. This saves energy and costs.
How much can I save?
tado° users save an average of 22% energy when heating, according to internal data. However, individual results depend heavily on factors such as insulation, heating behaviour and other circumstances. However, if you are not satisfied with what you have saved, we’ll return your money.

20% bills saving in the first month of using it! Amazing.
The whole Tado system is truly amazing. The Android app is very stable, well designed and easy to use. System is actually working very well. We were able to reduce our heating bills by roughly 20% compared to the 3 years average for December without giving up any comfort. In fact, the thermal comfort is now a lot better as we can schedule different temperatures for the daytime, sleeping time and while us or kids are away. Thanks to this the house is never too cold and damp or too warm and too dry. I also bought additional radiator thermostats for the entire house and never had to touch it again since I’ve set it all up. It’s fairly easy to install entire system with plenty of “how to” on YouTube and manufacturer’s own website. I’m not a plumber or an electrician and I was able to install the controller after watching just one video as it was as easy as moving the cables from the old heating controller to the new one between the identically labelled cable slots. All you have to remember is to switch the fuses off before you start. I have bought it on the Black Friday sale, but I would happily pay the full price as with current gas prices I would get all money back anyway after just one heating season. I think it’s the first “smart” gadget I ever bought that is making a real difference to my living comfort. I highly recommend it!

Smart, Efficient, and Easy to Use!
The Tado° Smart Thermostat has been a game-changer for managing my home’s temperature. The setup was quick, and the app is intuitive, allowing me to control the heating and cooling from anywhere. I love the smart scheduling feature, which helps optimize energy use and saves money on bills.Integration with Alexa and Apple HomeKit works flawlessly, making it super convenient to adjust the temperature with voice commands. The geofencing feature is also a great addition—it automatically adjusts the temperature when I leave or return home, which is really efficient. The design is sleek and modern, and the stand makes it easy to place wherever needed. Overall, if you’re looking for a smart, energy-saving thermostat that’s easy to use and packed with features, this is a fantastic choice!

Excellent so far….
Living in an old house with thick granite walls put me off investing in the original Tado system (V3+) however the Tado X system overcomes that with a newer communication protocol. I have an oil fired boiler with a gravity fed system/hot water cylinder and currently have 15 radiator smart thermostats installed plus the Bridge X and room temperature sensor and all communicating fine plus all linked with Alexa and the Echo Smart Home widget. Install and setup was a breeze (although if you’re not comfortable with wires then best to get someone who is for the central heating controller although Tado does provide a step-by-step guide with pictures) as was linking with Alexa. Now, I have control over the house on a room-by-room schedule rather than previously where there was no control and the whole house was heated, very inefficient. I can now have the bedroom and en-suite warm for getting up without heating the whole house and set daily schedules for each room in the house depending on where we spend the most time. So far the house is certainly more comfortable and while I haven’t had it long enough to estimate any savings in fuel oil consumption the boiler does appear to be running way less than previously which is a good sign. This will also control your hot water feed to the cylinder and includes similar schedules as the heating zones/rooms however I have this feature turned off at the moment as I’m controlling on an immersion heater and have plans to add some smart thermostat technology in that area as well that will tie in with the Tado control (although won’t be fully integrated). In summary, brilliant system and time will tell over battery life/reliability etc but if the previous system is anything to go by then this shouldn’t be a worry. One final point to note is that if you intend to configure within Alexa then you may need to upgrade your Echo devices to ensure that they support Matter (easily done, just search Amazon site for this information). Most do however worth checking.

Great piece of kit
Installation with my combi boiler was simple and I was able to do this myself despite not having much knowledge with electrical wiring. During setup, the app lets you search for installation instructions for your specific boiler, and I was surprised to find it even had instructions for my older, less common branded boiler.Configuration was straight forward enough and the Tado app is relatively easy to use. It will only connect through 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so you may need to alter settings on your Internet router to get it to work. The device also works through Matter, so no problem adding it to other services such as Google Home and Home Assistant. No real thrills when it comes to features, other than the ‘Auto-assist’ stuff which requires a subscription. Currently, you can only create schedules based on days of the week, it would be nice if you could have a more advanced mode based on a monthly calendar, or at the least be able to specify dates when to ignore the schedule and create a temporary one time only schedule to run instead. There’s not much to the wireless thermostat, it has a button for displaying the current temperature and two buttons for controlling the current target temperature, which will override the scheduled temp until the next schedule starts. The display is only powered for a short time after you press a button, it would be nice if there was an option to keep the display on. It takes three AAA batteries to power, so I’d suggest getting a pack of rechargables to use with it.I’ve not had any problems regarding wireless connection from either the thermostat or receiver. However, my house is fairly new and my router is centrally located and gets good signal throughout the house. Your milage may vary here.

Great hardware but anti-customer behaviour and cloud lock-in
I bought this thermostat because it supports Matter and I saw HomeAssistant integration working with it. I wired it myself and their documentation was amazing which lets you to do it yourself. So far it was alright, but recently Tado decided to start forcing everyone to have their subscription to have “local” control (via their cloud of course; search in HA thread on github). They claimed that “customers should go cloud if possible” and “otherwise if it is not possible then 100 requests/day for their API should enough to cover what is not supported for free customers and 20k requests/day for customers with subscription”, which as you can imagine simply not enough to control devices.I’d happy to go “full local” (as I have Matter/Thread hub for HA already and would want to control device locally), but Tado doesn’t provide such option – their Matter implementation is limited to Matter 1.1/1.3 version only and it doesn’t provide you control over hot water or schedules stored on the device, which makes it somewhat useless. I asked their support if they’re planning to upgrade their firmware (which you can’t find any documentation, latest version, an option to check updates or check changelogs whatsoever) and after my multiple attempts asking the same questions differently to get through (presumably) AI-based support they finally replied that they have no plans or information about doing it.On top of that, a couple of months ago they run a “test” marketing campaign where they showed some of the customers that “in order to use the app Tado will require you to pay a fee of £1/month”, which is extremely ridiculous given that you’re paying a lot for the devices already and you would expect that some sort of control would be available via the app for free, especially the one that you simply cannot control via thermostat itself (hot water or schedules).Given the price of monthly subscription of £4/month (considering what features you get it is burglary), their position over local-control via HomeAssistant and not willing to provide real full local control over devices (I’m very confident vast majority if not all customers would prefer if they could control _everything_ locally first and then have an option to have a remote control even for a small fee), but the company deliberately goes forces everyone to go “cloud first”, which is a shame. I’m grad that I didn’t buy any of their TRVs yet and probably will consider other, more reliable brands that won’t force me into their cloud but rather provide local control over Matter or Zigbee). So my suggestion to everyone – stay away if possible for now until the company does something that would make you confident that even if they go busted you will have control over your devices (ones that you paid for already).

Great little system
Had this installed by my boiler guy in around an hour. All went well, just the Bridge wouldn’t connect to the internet, he called technical support sand 2 minutes later it was up and running perfectly.I looked at the other big brands but decided on this on price, usability and features. It does everything the other do, just as well and is cheaper. I got it for £107 from Amazon warehouse (ripped box)The app is amazing, the geofencing reminders about heating on when you leave the house are perfect for me. You can remotely control the heating.I’ve connected it to alexa, and you can tell it to change the temperature, switch on and off and add to routines, so when I say to alexa “its bedtime” she turns lounge lights off, bedroom lights on and turns heating to 16 degrees, my desired overnight setting. In it’s own app you can set as many times a day or a week to do whatever you need your heating to do.You can set “away” or “off” at a touch of the screen. Adding times to the schedule was easier on the ipad, just because of the screen size. There’s a lovely graph showing the temperature across the day including humidity on the appFinally, when you set a time in a schedule, you can tell it if that’s the “on” time or the time to reach the desired temp in the room. So if you’re home at 6:30pm, sell it to get to the temperature at 6:30, so you never arrive home to a cold house. So glad I went for this product over the more expensive alternatives. I may add a radiator thermostat for the bedroom in the future, but I’m going to see how I get on for a few months as they are a little pricey.

Great smart thermostat
I’ve installed this today to replace a Google nest e that has had constant connectivity issues and this was so easy to install. All connected first time via the app no issues at all. Took me around 30 minutes.I’ll be adding tado radiator valves to all the radiators as soon as they arrive to give me full control to heat rooms independently. The setup is very straight forward, you install the Tado app on your phone create an account. Then add the thermostat, internet bridge & receiver for the boiler by scanning a QR code from each device, if they don’t scan (one of them didn’t for me) you can just enter the serial number and code from the label. After you ad each device the app guides you through the installation steps.A few things to note:1. The internet bridge has a very short usb cable (to power it), not been an issue in my setup but if you don’t have a plug or usb socket near to where your plugging it into your internet router or switch you may need a longer one. A lot of routers have usb sockets on so if you do that will make it really easy for you.2. On my setup it told me to use a separate power plug to power the live & neutral wires for the boiler receiver. This seemed odd but it may have been simply because I had selected the instructions for replacing the Google nest. In my case I just wired these into the live and neutral feed of the boiler. When installing this yourself make sure you have the power supply to the boiler turned off, the app asks you to double check this with an electrical tester too! And if your not sure get an electrician or plumber to install this for you.3. Some of the functionality requires a subscription, nothing that will stop you using the app or thermostat but if you want your heating to automatically turn off if your away from home and turn on when your back you will need to pay €25 per year. I understand why they do this as there is a cost to host these services but I’ll be integrating this into my smart home setup using Home assistant so will be able to have the same functionally without the tado subscription. You could probably achieve this using ittt too.So far I have only used this for a day but will update this review if I come across any issues but so far compared to my previous Google nest e the Tado thermostat seems much better and more importantly reliable. With the added functionally with the additional Tado radiator valves it should also save me money heating only the rooms I need to at the times I set.

Beware of the limited range, may not work with older properties.
Having read/watched numerous good reviews, I bought the Tado starter kit with 9 thermostatic radiator valves to completely replace an older system in my medium sized 300 year old property.I’ll get straight to the main points:The Bad:The internet bridge uses radio frequency rather than Wifi to connect to all of the Tado devices – this means setup is really easy but unfortunately it has a very limited range that can’t be extended (you can’t fit more than one bridge). In reality, you’ll have to keep moving the bridge around your house until it can connect to all of the radiator valves and the boiler controller – it isn’t quite this straight forward as it’ll connect for a while, then randomly loose signal (which runs out the batteries very quickly of the device that can’t now connect). My house is medium sized but has a solid central internal wall, and 3 floors with floor one floor being an attic conversion. This results in strange behaviour of the boiler which tends to keep heating all of the time, even though the radiator valves are not asking for heat input.Since fitting the Tado system, I’ve moved the bridge all over the place trying to find the ‘sweet spot’ – currently in an upstairs room and taped vertically to an internal timber wall (bridge wall brackets are available, but not genuine Tado).I am not convinced that the system will save me money due to the random boiler activation when all valves and the schedule is not asking for heat. Time will tell….(The tell tale that something is wrong is that the boiler controller will display a very slow flashing triangle symbol with the wireless LED also slowly pulsing – the app may not report a problem?)The Good:The Tado system is very easy to install with the small internet bridge simply plugging into your router (with a separate power supply) – it connected straight away with no fuss at all, the same can be said of the wireless thermostat that comes with the starter kit and also the boiler controller, all connecting to one another with a minimal amount of effort.Fitting the boiler controller was really easy and it basically comes to just 6 wires (for models with hot water control/not a combi) : Power Live and Neutral, Heating on, Heating off, Water on, Water off – very simple to do with really good personalised instructions for your boiler provided by Tado. (using a multimeter you can soon work out what operates stuff without instructions anyway)Changing the radiator valves was again ultra easy once you’ve downloaded the Tado App – just scan the QR code on the valve, pull out the battery tab, press the pair button and within a couple of seconds it’ll pair to the bridge and app. (its the same system when installing the bridge, boiler controller and all other Tado devices). Luckily for me all my old radiator valves were the older TRV’s so the Tado valves simply screwed onto the existing fitting, but adapters are included with each valve just incase you have a less common attachment. (obviously you need some sort of existing TRV setup, otherwise you’ll have to change the radiator valve body – bit of plumbing needed in this case!)The app is great, yes it does have some overly complicated means of setting your preferences with a bit of menu searching etc (the setup could be made so much easier, but it certainly isn’t bad). Connection to your heating remotely is spot-on, works really well (assuming the bridge is not suffering its frequent connection issues). The build quality of all the Tado components seems good enough, I wouldn’t say that anything feels or looks ‘cheap’.Improvements that could be made:1) Annoying connection issues all of the time, this really needs fixing with frequency repeaters or multiple addresses for several additional bridge connections. (specifically for properties larger or older than a modern two bedroom internal timber construction build) – I would say that requires an urgent modification, as many people won’t be happy once they find that the bridge keeps loosing connections to random valves or the boiler controller.2) When wiring the boiler controller, the common positive feeds need to be joined using an external (provided) jumper wire? Given that there is an NO and NC input, surely the common could be hard wired to positive on the PCB for the non-combi controller version?3) More space is required for the routing of wires to the boiler controller, the wire clamps are not a good design and are prone to breakage. Consider using a standard backplate such as Hive or Drayton which would make the install process sooooo much more modern/simple/quick/inviting for customers.4) To change the batteries in the radiator valves, they need to be removed from the radiator – why not a top entry into an internal cylinder- spaced to allow for the servo motor, which would allow the top temperature adjuster to rotate in any direction indefinitely as per the current design, but allow a battery change without disconnecting the valve?5) The app is good (it really is), but I think some indicators from the Settings page should be visible on the room temperature display, such as the mode (temperature remains until next schedule/15 minutes/indefinitely) which are quite major settings that are hidden away until you wonder why a room is continually being heated.6) Finally – supply a holder/stand for the bridge. The instructions specifically say to mount the bridge vertically – with no way of holding it in this position, there are no holes for a screw or any sort of fixing method other than a sticky pad – but then you’ve put the pair button on the back?Wow, I said I’d get straight to the point then ended up writing a short novel! In Conclusion:The idea of Tado is fantastic, the app is well put together and works, and the hardware seems decent quality. The connection issues are a problem and let the whole system down.Probably great for modern small buildings, but not good at all for larger older buildings. If mine continues to have connection issues after all the multiple repositioning of the internet bridge, then I will consider sending the whole lot back for a refund.

Seven zone heating system!
Magic! I now have seven radiators with seven tado° X TRVs … so I now have a seven zone heating system – each one independently able to call for heat. (Plus the eighth rad in the shower room for the pump overrun, which warms the room whenever any rad calls for heat – very cosy!)It also manages the heating of the hot water tank – assuming the solar PV hasn’t already done so!Negative? – it supposedly works with HomeKit, not yet then. This is tado° X not dependent on WiFi as it creates a Matter network. All easy swap-out lithium rechargeable batteries on the TRVs.The app is excellent.

Solid device well made packaged and looks good
Well packaged and a solid build, good instructions to set up, only gripe is not being able to see description of the buttons easily which could be an issue for someone with poor eyesight. Otherwise so far so good hoping it lasts
